Diabetes mellitus - type 2
Absolute majority of diabetics (about 85%) suffer from this type of diabetes. It develops and appears at middle and higher age and is accompanied by insulin resistance - plasmatic levels of insulin may be lowered or even normal, but body is not able process insulin. More often this type of diabetes is found in obese people, in people with minimal physical activity. In most of patients suffering from type 2 diabetes mellitus, the disease is recognized only when symptoms of late complications are present (due to slinking onset of disease): tiredness/torpidity, blurred vision, dry and itching skin, minute and repeated skin infections (purulence, leavening) - bad healing, loss of sensitivity in hands or legs, frequent uroinfections, high blood pressure, high level of cholesterol, a range of other vascular problems (in legs, heart, brain or sexual).
Treatment of this type of diabetes varies - but always consists of life-style changes (quitting of smoking, introduction of more physical activities…), lowering of body mass, etc. Treatment always starts with diet adjustment and by selfmonitoring. If correction of diet is not sufficient, doctor moreover starts treatment by peroral antidiabetics - tablets - or by application of insulin. Always it is absolutely necessary at the same time prevent, uncover out and treat complication (measure blood pressure, weight, check plasmatic level of lipids…)
