Diabetic leg syndrome
The term diabetic leg represents damage of leg tissues accompanied by disorders of its nerves, most often below ankle. Even minute injuries can lead to ulcers and infection complications.
Diabetic leg syndrome concerns approximately five percent of diabetics. About 40 000 diabetics suffer from diabetic leg syndrome in the Czech Republic. Doctors gradually remove damaged parts of leg(s) and almost one half of patients finally have to undergo amputation (approx. 7500 amputations). Early beginning of treatment on a specialized clinic is crucial. Very essential part of diabetic leg syndrome prevention is good care about legs (feet) and top-quality medical dia-footwear.
